Fossil Formation

Making a fossil can take a long time, but with this amazing game you can make one in minutes. First we chose the way it died.Then what enviroment it died in. After that we chose the type of weather the fossil was exposed. Lastly you pick how the new born fossil was found.This has been the best fossil making I've ever done.

This Week in Science

On Thursday lastweek in science we cut up sponges into a circle, square, or a triangle. Next we put sand over the sponge. Then we pored salt water over the sand (some of us had tap water.) Now Mr.Lemming and Mrs.Anderson are going to cook them in the oven on high heat and next week we are going to see how it turns out. al

Avery and the Big Chunky Elephant

Avery is studying and working hard to do her science adaptations so was the whole class. We were working on our animals and trying to figure out their adaptations. We are doing this for a science activity, and we did great. This is just one example but I'm going to keep writing about why we're doing this activity. It all started with a science investigation when we were testing bird beaks and what they where good for. For example, if we took a Humming Bird from its natural habitat and moved it to the the ocean it would take along time to adjust to that new habitat. So if you did move them many of those birds would die but some would adjust and be able to survive. So over time their beaks would change so they could live near the ocean and be able to live on the ocean and suck krill and dead stuff on the beach and still live. The Fifth Grade Experience

Fifth grade is a transformative year. Ahead there will be new challenges in middle school: multiple teachers, school sports, different workload. Behind, the foundation of becoming a lifelong learner: learning to read, write, and basic arithmetic. Here we are in fifth grade at Cascade View Elementary School, in a portable. It is pretty cool I must admit, like we have our own campus.

This is the year where students need to be aware of how their actions impact those around them, immediately and around the world. Students will begin to shed their childhood persona and develop who they will become as a pre-teen.

Parents, I know this may seem scary, however, it is exciting. At this age children begin to question the basic understandings of the how the world turns and the answers to those questions can influence their perspective not only on different subject areas but life in general.

Students, this is your chance to grab the reigns of your learning and be a leader of the school. You will have many young eyes watching your steps on the playground, your actions in the lunch room, and your behavior in the hallways. Teachers will be watching for those students who shine by showing their maturity and zeal for being a CVES student.

My job is to create a space where students feel welcome and safe. An environment conducive for learning and growing into interesting people. I will show up to school every day to provide this type of atmosphere. It is the job of parents to provide the same support at home, and ultimately it is up to the student to be present and push themselves academically and personally.
